In shortA tapered coupler joins rebar via a conical thread: bars with a rolled conical thread are screwed into the coupler with self-centring and fast tightening. It gives a full-strength splice per GOST 34278-2024 without welding. Used for Ø16–40 mm rebar, including in congested cages where installation speed matters.

Tapered rebar couplers: design and application

A tapered coupler is a threaded connecting sleeve with tapered a metric thread. Thanks to the taper, the thread on the bar and in the coupler self-centers, the splice assembles faster and is less sensitive to misalignment and thread contamination than a cylindrical one. The connection is full-strength to the rebar body and needs no welding.

Lomax tapered couplers are used to splice rebar Ø16–40 mm of classes A400/A500C in columns, walls, slabs and foundations, especially where frame-assembly speed and installation in congested conditions matter. A thread is cut/rolled on the bar end, after which the coupler is screwed on with a torque-controlled wrench.

GOST 34278-2024 and documents

Tapered couplers are tested to GOST 34278-2024 — for strength, deformability and fatigue endurance of the splice. Each batch comes with a quality certificate and test report.

Tapered, cylindrical or swaged?

The tapered one is easier and faster to install; threaded cylindrical — the most economical standard solution; swaged is installed by pressing without cutting a thread. A breakdown of all three technologies — in the article "Threaded, tapered and swaged couplers".

Advantage over welding and lapping

A coupled joint needs no certified welder or preheating, is installed in any weather and saves up to 25% of rebar compared with lapping. More — coupler vs welding vs lap splice.

Sizes and price of the tapered coupler Ø16–40

The base version is the Lomax LX-C tapered coupler. Price "from", depends on batch volume. Transition and special versions — in the cards above.
